Ghostpoet - Peanut Butter Blues &
Melancholy Jam (2011)
Genres: Electronic, Hip Hop

Ghostpoet is a 24 year old musician who hails from London, UK. Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam is his debut album, and it does not disappoint. Ghostpoet looks to make a mark in 2011, and with a strong debut album like Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, making his mark on this year is foreseeable. From covering topics such as self perseverance, financial strain, regret, love, and various alcoholic tales, Ghostpoet catapulted his way into the everyday lives of his listeners.

Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam consists of bone chilling and hard hitting instrumentals that have the capability of taking your mind to dark places unimaginable; and even though his voice is low-toned and slow steadied, it still dolefully clenches to his self-made instrumentals (hence the Blues and Melancholy). Ghostpoet is vocally unorthodox. XLR8R described his voice as, “A mix between Mos Def’s halfhearted croon and Tunde Adebimpe (lead singer of TV On The Radio) on quaaludes.” Moreover, based on their poetic similarities, Ghostpoet's name has also been in comparison to the fellow British MC, Roots Manuva.

It's known that MC's outside of the US are forced to fight their way through the American dominated Hip Hop genre; leaving many unsuccessful. Instead of following the blueprint most rappers abide by to fortify success, Ghostpoet successfully created his own lane. Not only did he shatter the Internet in 2010 with his EP entitled, "The Sound of Strangers", but the track "Cash Carry Me Home" from Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam also caused a stir; a well deserved stir that is.

Productively independent? Vocally incomparable? What more could a person hope for in a musician? If you don't mind dark yet hard hitting Electronic compositions matched with dusk lyrics, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam is recommended for you. The video created for the single "Cash Carry Me Home" is located below for anyone looking for a sample to indulge in. Most importantly, the album can be purchased via Amazon (here), so if you're interested in what you hear, and want more, support Ghostpoet by purchasing this amazing album. Enjoy!
